Hey, NYC -- back off! DC has claimed the Obamas and we’re not letting go. Page Sixis reporting that Barack and Michelle Obama are eyeing an apartment at 10 Gracie Square on the Upper East Side, situated between East End Avenue and East River Drive and near the mayor’s residence, Gracie Mansion -- say sources who have seen the couple arriving at the building for viewings. See? In DC we let you have your privacy. Sure we report your every move in The Beat DC but that’s just because we want you to know we care! Other notables who have lived in the swanky NYC space built in 1930 include designer Gloria Vanderbilt aka Anderson Cooper’s mom, conductor André Kostelanetzand New Yorker critic Alexander Woollcott. There’s a gym and an indoor basketball court, but big deal. We’ve got plenty of those in DC. A duplex apartment at 10 Gracie Square went into contract last week for $10 million.
