Taddeo Makes History in Florida
Annette Taddeo beat Republican State Rep. José Félix Díaz in a special election to fill a Florida state Senate seat, and by doing so, became the first Latina Democrat to serve in the state’s Senate. Taddeo not only bested Díaz, who was a member on Trump's Apprentice, but she's filling the seat of former Republican Senator Frank Artiles, whose sexist and racist tirade against two black colleagues earlier this year led to his resignation. “The voters wanted a champion in Tallahassee who will fight for higher paying jobs, affordable healthcare and fully funded public schools and I am honored and humbled that they have placed their faith and trust in me,” Taddeo said in a statement. “I pledge to work every day for the families of my community and not the special interests.” Democratic Party chairman Tom Pérez said that Taddeo’s win shows Florida voters “have sent a loud and clear message that the Democratic Party has their back and shares their values.” More here.
