Rubio Calls on Trump to Put DOD in Charge of Puerto Rico

Following a press conference Thursday morning, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) is formally calling on Donald Trump to put the Department of Defense in charge of handling the logistics of distributing recovery aid in Puerto Rico as the island grapples with the crisis caused by Hurricane Maria. In a letter Rubio wrote to the president, he says, “There are significant logistical concerns regarding the urgent actions your administration is taking to bring relief to our fellow Americans on the island of Puerto Rico. There is no clear command, control, and communication between local officials on the ground and federal agencies, and many roads and bridges remained unpassable, making it even more difficult for repair crews to restore power and communications to areas of the island outside of San Juan.” He goes on to say that the logistical chain in Puerto Rico isn’t just broken, it’s virtually non-existent, and he fears the situation will deteriorate rapidly. See full letter here.
