Schumer Endorsement Bucks Latino and Women’s Groups in TX-29 Race

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has gone against the Congressional Hispanic Caucus’ BOLD PAC, the PODER PAC -- a political action committee dedicated to lifting up Latina candidates, EMILY’s List, and a retiring candidate, with his endorsement yesterday of Tahir Javed in the race for Texas’ 29th Congressional District. The Latino and women’s groups, as well as the district’s departing Democrat, Congressman Gene Green, had all endorsed Texas state Senator Sylvia García. The move by Schumer to endorse Javed, a healthcare executive and Democratic bundler, in a district that is 77% Latino left the groups reeling. "From working to increase access to healthcare, standing for equality and fairness, and fighting for better schools, leaders on the ground know my record and know that I will continue to get things done in Congress," García said. "Thankfully, the Senator from New York won't be able to vote in Texas Congressional District 29." More on the issue here.
