Lucille Roybal-Allard and Bobby Scott Named to New Congressional Committees

On Friday, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced their House appointments to the newly created Joint Select Committee on the Solvency of Multiemployer Pension Plans and Joint Select Committee on Budget and Appropriations Process Reform. Two members of color, both Democrats, were named to the Committees; Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA) was named to the Budget and Appropriations Committee, and Congressman Bobby Scott (D-VA) was named to the Pensions Committee. In a release, Pelosi’s office said that the Democrats’ “appointees reflect the Democratic Caucus’ diversity of backgrounds and expertise, including the fresh vision of three Members who have served for three terms or less.” Each Leader gets to name four members to each Committee; Senate leadership has yet to announce their appointees. More on the new Committees and their membership here.
