Luján Grisham Intros Bill to Close New Conscience and Religious Freedom Division at HHS
Congresswoman Michelle Luján Grisham (D-NM) later today will introduce legislation to abolish HHS' recently announced Conscience and Religious Freedom Division, reports Politico. In January, the Division was introduced by the administration because they said it would help protect religious liberty in healthcare, but groups warn that it could allow for easier discrimination. "[T]he Trump Administration has no business facilitating discrimination and creating barriers for medically necessary health care," Luján Grisham said. "This Division was created with the sole purpose of allowing hospitals, doctors, nurses, and even administrative staff to determine a patient's care based on their personal religious beliefs, not on what is best for the patient."
