Digital Writer (Boston, MA)

Senator Elizabeth Warren, a champion for working families, is looking a talented writer to join her digital team’s 2018 re-election campaign.

You’ll help tell the story of our campaign for millions of people across Massachusetts and around the country – and motivate people to join this fight.

Responsibilities:

  • Writing mass emails, social media content, blog posts, text messages, and other content meant for digital consumption.
  • Coordinate with our campaign’s Field, Finance, and Communications campaigns to come up with new content ideas that showcase the work happening across our campaign – and manage the process for turning those ideas into words.
  • Perform other duties – digital and non-digital – for our scrappy team as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Strong writing and storytelling skills with a clear and concise voice. You should be able to write the way that real people talk – to tell Elizabeth’s story, the stories of the people who work/volunteer on our campaign, and the stories of the people she’s fighting for, and to explain complex policy ideas in simple and compelling content.
  • Willingness to write many drafts to a/b test and optimize performance, and eagerness to come up with new ways to reach more people online.
  • Understanding of the difference in tone, audiences, and calls to action suitable for different types of online platforms, including email, social posts, blog posts, tweets and text.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Experience using content management systems like Wordpress, Drupal, or ExpressionEngine.
  • Experience using political mass mailer systems like Blue State Digital, Salsa, Action Network, or commercial systems like MailChimp, Silverpop, or Exact Target preferred.
  • Experience writing for a political campaign or advocacy campaign preferred but not required (as long as you have a strong interested in politics and helping Elizabeth get re-elected in 2018). If you’re new to the field but hoping to apply your skills to a good cause, we hope to hear from you.
  • Willingness to work long and unpredictable hours and pitch in wherever needed.

Applicants at all levels – from seasoned editors to junior writers – will be considered. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

This position will be based in Boston, MA (sorry, this is not a remote position). Some travel around Massachusetts to document events and capture people’s stories may be required. This position reports to the Digital Director. Please send your resume, cover letter, and at least two non-academic examples of your writing to jobs@elizabethwarren.com with “Digital Writer” in the subject line. Elizabeth for MA is an equal opportunity employer.
