Kevin de León Makes Feinstein Challenge Official

California state Senate leader Kevin de León made his challenge to Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) official with an announcement on Sunday. In his campaign launch video, 50-year-old de León talks about being the youngest child of a single immigrant mother who cleaned other people’s homes. “It doesn’t make a difference if it’s Latino, African American, if it’s white, Asian American, if it’s a racially mixed community. Poverty is poverty. And I think it’s incumbent on policymakers, on leaders, to provide real opportunities so everyone can succeed,” the candidate said. He has been at the forefront of California’s progressive climate change and 'sanctuary state' legislation. The 84-year-old Feinstein has been in the Senate since 1992, is the Senate’s Ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, and has never faced a serious electoral challenge from within her party. She has already been endorsed for re-election by Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA). De León’s strategy will be to assemble a coalition that includes Latinos, African Americans, and younger voters, and going after the heart of supporters of Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT)See the announcement here.
