Grijalva Paid Out $48K to Settle Workplace Dispute
Congressman Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ) gave a female staffer a $48,395 "severance package" after she alleged the Congressman was often drunk and created a hostile work environment, and threatened to sue. She dropped the issue after the House Employment Counsel’s office negotiated to give her the settlement, which was equivalent to five months salary. She had worked for Grijalva for three months. “On the advice of House Employment Counsel, I provided a severance package to a former employee who resigned. The severance did not involve the Office of Compliance and at no time was any allegation of sexual harassment made, and no sexual harassment occurred,” Grijalva said in an email to The Washington Times.
