Open Society Named Obama Alumnus President

The Open Society Foundations announced the appointment of Patrick Gaspard as President. He has managed day-to-day operations of the Foundations since September. Gaspard will oversee a 2018 budget of more than one billion dollars at the Open Society Foundations, which support human rights, justice, and access to public health and education in more than 140 countries. Gaspard was previously the U.S. Ambassador to South Africa from 2013 to 2016. Prior to that, he was the Executive Director of the DNC from 2011 to 2013, Assistant to then-President Barack Obama and Director of the WH Office of Political Affairs from 2009 to 2011, and the National Political Director for Obama for America in 2008. Gaspard also was the EVP and Political Director for SEIU. “This is a mission unlike any other,” said Gaspard. “And I am deeply honored to be confirmed in this role by Chairman George Soros and the Global Board.” Open Society Chairman Soros weighed in with, “I am delighted to have Patrick as leader of the Foundations.” More here.
