Julián Castro Launches PAC Amid Rumors of 2020 Run

Former Obama HUD Secretary Julián Castro has formed a new PAC, Opportunity First. Politico reports that documents filed this week list Castro as its president, though Castro declined to comment. The former mayor of San Antonio is stepping up political activity as rumors float that he is considering a run for president in 2020. Opportunity First will back candidates at all levels and could finance political activities for Castro should he choose to run for another office. Castro has already campaigned for congressional and gubernatorial candidates since the end of the Obama administration, including Andrew Gillum who is running for Governor of FL, and Colin Allred who is running for Congress in Dallas. Castro has already said he is not running for any office in 2018, but told the Texas Tribune’s Evan Smith that he’s looking to “see how things develop over the next year or so and then make a decision as to whether that’s something I want to do.” More here.
