Obama Hosts First DNC Fundraiser Since Leaving

For the first time since leaving office, former President Barack Obama is hosting a fundraiser for the DNC -- a move party officials are likely hoping will give fundraising efforts a boost. This is Obama’s second political event since leaving office. CNN reports that invites for the September 27th fundraiser are set to go out to party donors on Friday afternoon. We told you about Obama’s first fundraiser for Eric Holder’s National Democratic Redistricting Committee in July. The DNC's fundraising has lagged since Obama left office. Chair Tom Pérez announced $10 million in competitive grants to fund innovative state party efforts and also announced $10,000 in funding for each state party through 2018. Additionally, he has said the DNC will spend $1.5 million on the gubernatorial and state legislative races in Virginia this fall. More here.
